On October 1, 2026, as part of his participation in the 44th UN-Water Meeting in Rome, Italy, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Farrukh Hamralizoda delivered a statement on preparations for the United Nations Conference on Water Resources, which will be held on 4–6 May 2028 in Dushanbe.

During his statement, the First Deputy Minister informed the audience on the steps being undertaken by Tajikistan in preparation for the Conference, which will serve as the culminating event of the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development”, 2018–2028.

It was emphasized that Tajikistan attaches particular importance to ensuring the continuity and coherence of the global water agenda, as well as to strengthening international cooperation towards the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 6 — ensuring availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.

The First Deputy Minister underscored the importance of continuing close engagement with UN Member States, United Nations entities, international and regional organizations, international financial institutions and other stakeholders throughout the preparatory process for the Conference.

Particular attention was paid to developing the substantive basis of the Conference and preparing its outcome document — the Dushanbe Water Framework. In accordance with the resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly, the document is expected to serve as an intergovernmentally agreed, action-oriented framework for further advancing the global water agenda.

In this regard, it was emphasized that the Dushanbe Conference is intended to contribute to taking stock of the achievements of the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development” and to identifying further areas for international cooperation in the field of water resources.

Tajikistan’s readiness for open, inclusive and constructive engagement with all stakeholders with a view to ensuring the successful preparation and convening of the 2028 UN Water Conference was reaffirmed during the speech.
